Vekhova (Institute of Marine Biology, Far East Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladivostok 690041) Reattachment process in the bivalves Crenomytilus grayanus and Modiolus modiolus involves several successive stages, which take in vitro about one month at 19 ± 2ºC. In comparison with C. grayanus, M. modiolus had higher rates of byssus thread production and a larger number of byssal threads by the end of the byssus complex formation.
