Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. My name is .. and I am a marketing
consultant. I’m glad to welcome you today on food Sales departments meeting . I
am here today to discuss with you global problem of sales in food production.
I shall take only 10 minutes of your time. What I intend to do is to divide this
presentation into 3 parts : first, problem of new technology, second part I will talk
about price war between large chain shops VS small local shops and the third part I d
like to talk about problem of job cuts.
Lets get started. If you have any questions please feel free to interrupt me.
1 Nowdays new technologies pushes down prices on food market. If we look at the
price statistics of the last few years, then we will clearly see a sharp decline. This is
Due to advances in food production and distribution technologies. New
technologies can significantly reduce costs for manufacturers.
Despite the prediction about that world would running out of food, we produce more
food with less capital and its price become cheaper.
2 Secondly, I would like to talk about the confrontation between supermarket and
small stores. Big supermarkets are destroying small stores with the help of their
volume of sales. Nowadays, many people сertainly prefer to do shopping in a large
supermarket once a week and buy all the goods at once, rather than go to a small
store several times a week. Supermarkets attract customers with a large parking
area, a varied range of products, low prices and extra discounts.
That’s why in recent years, the number of small stores has halved.
3 That conclusion brings us to another problem – staff reduction.
When producers cut down prices, they have to make job cuts. For example, big
retail company unilever has cut its workforce on 15 % in recent years.
New technologies also reduce the number of workers required. in 2015 there were
an estimated 1.6 million industrial robots performing activities previously done by
humans. On the other hand, some workers may benefit from the productivity
improvements of new technologies. among workers some may get new skills that
allow them to move to more highly skilled jobs.
.To sum up, new technologies can both destroy jobs places and help people move
up the career ladder. At the same time big scale of supermarkets make it possible
to produce goods at the lowest costs as supermarkets buy goods in bulk.
It is economical rule – the more you produce or buy, the cheaper price. So they can
offer lower prices for products.
In conclusion, it is possible for workers to be thriving from advances in technology
by acquiring new skills that are complementary to machines, rather than remaining
in jobs that are destroyed by them.
